Vox
Youth Initiative is a group setting up a new play
project for the youths and a fund raising event for charity in Abuja, Nigeria,
during the summer holiday – GOAL: The
Charity Football tournament.
VOX says" In recent time, there has been a growing
concern by both parents and youths across the state on career choice and
development based on their childhood dreams."
The group has been running for nearly a
year now and in that time we have had over 300 different young people come
along for the 8-ASIDE SUMMER FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT which we
organized in CopaCabana Park, Abuja. We
are very proud of our achievements and the hard work of a lot of people
connected with the group, bringing together youth from a wide geographic area,
which has also led to our success.
The Vox
Youth Initiative has found that only 4% of youth in its target communities
participate in civic activities, with 6% taking part in arts, sports, or
cultural activities. The tournament is just one of Vox Youth Initiative’s
activities designed to promote active civic engagement among youth, and provide
youth friendly services that enable young people to pursue their hobbies and
interests in safe, nurturing environments. Similar activities supported through Vox Youth Initiative include
fund raising for Charity.
The tournament offered an excellent
opportunity for team building, not only for youth, but for the Vox Youth Initiative members.
Participating youth – who rarely have the opportunity to attend such events in
their community, had the chance to interact with a diverse group of youths,
including some members of the great U-17 Nigeria’s soccer team. The prevailing
spirit of goodwill was evident through the cheers made by all teams for the
C.B.N FC team which eventually won first place and went home with a cash prize
of 100,000 naira.
‘’This was the best sport day ever!,”
said one participant. “It’s great to play with youth from different communities
in Abuja,” said another. “Thanks for thinking of us and what we want,” echoed a
third.
VOX
is a latin word which means VOICE in English.
In Nigeria, there are over 250,000
street children. And street children, too, have a right to dream. So we at VOX
have made it our mission to provide for these children by showing them support
and love.

develop good sportsmanship by Instilling in youth the values associated with
team sports, make new friends and have FUN.

Familiarize youths with the
fundamentals by teaching children and youths how to put winning and losing in
perspective emphasis on good sportsmanship, fair play, and discipline.

To support Charity by raising
funds for the less privileged in our community.
